Graves Mountain is a hidden gem located in the heart of Georgia, USA. It is the only public diamond mine in North America and is built on the eighth largest diamond crater in the world. This mineral-rich mountain has been a source of remarkable white, brown and yellow diamond jewels since the 1920s. Tiffany & Co.
was one of the first to exploit Graves Mountain, using the rutile they dug up to polish diamonds. Today, Graves Mountain is open to members of the Georgia Mineral Society by appointment only. However, twice a year, in April and October, the caretaker opens up the land to the public for a three-day excavation event. The registration fee for this event is by donation.
The 8.5-carat diamond discovered at Graves Mountain is just one of hundreds of remarkable gems found on the property over time. The largest diamond discovered was in 1924 and had more than 40 carats! If you're looking for a unique experience and a chance to find your own diamond jewel, Graves Mountain is definitely worth a visit. You never know what you might find!.
