was one of the first to exploit Graves Mountain, using the rutile they dug up to polish diamonds. Today, Graves Mountain is open to members of the Georgia Mineral Society by appointment only. However, twice a year, in April and October, the caretaker opens up the land to the public for a three-day excavation event. The registration fee for this event is by donation.
The 8.5-carat diamond discovered at Graves Mountain is just one of hundreds of remarkable gems found on the property over time. The largest diamond discovered was in 1924 and had more than 40 carats!
